Budapest plays Berlin in Charlize Theron’s new spy thriller – WATCH TRAILER

The new trailer for Atomic Blonde, starring the Oscar-winning Charlize Theron, has been released. The film was partially shot in Budapest in 2015, writes. Atomic Blonde is an American action spy thriller directed by David Leitch of John Wick fame.
The film is set in the last year of the Cold War, and follows an undercover MI6 agent, played by Theron, who is sent to Berlin to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a list of double agents.

The films also stars James McAvoy, John Goodman, and Toby Jones, as well as two Hungarian actors, Attila Árpa and Simon Szabó, who have not made an appearance in the trailer. Principal photography began in Budapest in November 2015, then moved on to Berlin.

In the new trailer, you can catch glimpses of the streets of Budapest, as well as a scene on the characteristic open corridor of a tenement house. The streets of the city are dotted with the Trabants, Wartburgs, and Skodas of the 1980s.

Budapest is a popular location for international productions, often disguised as other cities. In Tom Hank’ mystery thriller Inferno, parts of the Hungarian capital appear as locations in Venice and Florence, while in the British crime drama series Maigret, Paris in the 1950s comes to life on the streets of Budapest, but the city has “played” Rome, London, Moscow, and Buenos Aires as well.
